Billionaires Not So Benevolent at the Holidays (or ever)

Just in time for Christmas, Matt Taibbi over at Rolling Stone has rounded up some thoughts from the super-rich about the OWS movement, whether the rich should be paying higher taxes and, in a nutshell, how little they care about you and yours this holiday season (and every day of their lives).

As always, the creators of the financial crisis manage to be both shocking and entirely unsurprising.  This is one of my favorites, from Home Depot co-founder Bernard Marcus on OWS:

“Who gives a crap about some imbecile?” Marcus said. “Are you kidding me?”

Actually, Mr. Marcus, it looks like they’re pretty serious.

Taibbi goes on to make a solid point that’s too often overlooked:  the super-rich truly don’t have to care whether or not the government is botching the job and breaking down all around them. They have their own infrastructure, including private security, that makes them far less dependent on basic government service than the rest of us.
